Commercial architecture.
It’s up there with one of the more exciting project briefs that an Architect can be presented with – to re-imagine and convert a historic, ‘character-rich’ existing building, to breathe a new life and future into it, and to make it suitable for its next chapter.
Working closely with business owners Jess and Chris and with the help from Lydia Maskiell Interior Design Studio, the stage was set to bring this old church back to life – to celebrate its past whilst helping to imagine its future, and to create a home for Bridport Distilling Co.
The original building – its form, materiality, features, and do we dare say its ‘spirit’, has been retained and celebrated, never turning its back on the pivotal role that it once played in the Bridport and north-east community. And now through this redevelopment, 101 Main Street Bridport will continue to play a pivotal role in the community – bringing people together, creating memories, encouraging innovation, supporting local growers, creating employment opportunities, and by being a gathering place for celebration, fun, and laughter!
