So, let’s talk about 2020…

Phew! Glad that’s (nearly) over, right?

While most of us will be happy to see the end of the shemozzle that’s been 2020, we’ve also had some pretty spectacular highlights this year that are worthy of a mention.

Let’s take a look back on the year that was, and what wonderful things we’re grateful for!

Free Thinking

When COVID-19 hit, our brand and marketing team quickly adapted to support the myriad of local businesses doing it tough. Through our Free Thinking initiative, we caught up with 52 small businesses via zoom to lend our strategic skills (for free!) and brainstorm creative ideas for reinvention in the face of a crisis. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive and we feel pretty chuffed to see the impact of our talents on other businesses during this time.

Building grants

Meanwhile, on the archi side of the business, the building industry boom of 2020 was in full force! Thanks to the State & Federal Government HomeBuilder scheme and other market factors, we were able to work with clients on 64 new housing projects throughout this year. Along with all of our residential projects, we’ve worked on some fantastic commercial projects and we’re getting excited to see not one, but two $10M developments commence construction in Hobart in early 2021!

Education

In 2020, our Archi team oversaw $13.75M of educational facilities constructed across Tasmania and Victoria, while our brand and ,arketing team worked with multiple rural Tasmanian schools to communicate to their communities what makes them so great. Through our philanthropic efforts, we saw the Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission (GSAM) staff accommodation facility constructed and completed; now providing desperately needed housing to the staff of the GSAM school and orphanage.

$1M of philanthropy

June was a milestone month for us, as we tallied one million dollars in philanthropic impact. Since S. was founded in 2011, we’ve donated and raised funds, and gifted professional services to make our world a better place, both locally and overseas. Our global impact now exceeds $1M and we have no plans of stopping anytime soon!

So, while 2020 had its challenges, overall it was a pretty stellar year for the S. Group team. We’re grateful to have our health and happiness and be back in the office together after a short period of iso.

We’re looking forward to celebrating 10 years of S. next year, and have some exciting things in the works – we can’t wait to share more with you! Until then, big love to everyone who was a part of our journey this year.
