Welcome to The Penguin House!
This spacious, seaside family home combines a range of exterior claddings – timber, brick and cement sheet to create textured and eclectic appeal. Of these materials, the reclaimed bricks from the early 1900s were the most intriguing and sometimes challenging material to work with. Having a limited number available and being unable to combine them with modern bricks meant they became a focal point of the architecture, around which the rest of the house revolved.
Inside, the exposed brick continues, drawing the eye from the entryway, through to epic ocean views from north-facing windows. To add extra volume to the space, the open plan kitchen, dining and living areas are designed as a trio of descending terraces.
Our interior design team used a variety of textures for the bathroom, including concrete, tiles and timber, which perfectly complemented the eclectic architectural features.
