create wonder.

Residential architecture.

Located on a semi-rural residential site, of some three hectares, Villa Blanca has become a dramatic, yet elegant, insertion into the sparse Tasmanian landscape. Of paramount importance for the client was a sense of privacy and integration and grounding of the built form into the stunning natural environment. Simultaneously the programmatic arrangement and internal articulation had to achieve a luxurious and refined standard of living.

Drawing on the client’s love of twentieth-century modernism, the architectural language references clean lines, simplistic forms and a beautiful, articulated material palette.

Upon approaching the home the user is greeted with an expansive blank wall, eliciting a sense of intrigue as to what lies behind. The dramatic façade sets up a truly striking journey. From the external natural landscape, the user transitions through a proportionally inconsequential entry threshold into a voluminous, light-filled and spacious home. Thoughtful arrangement of the programme and glazed walls opens the home up to the true beauty of the landscape waiting beyond the entry wall.

Recognised as the 2015 People’s Choice Award in the Tasmanian Architecture Awards, Villa Blanca from its conception through to its realisation proved to be triumphant for both the client and the design team.
